Documented Quality from Origin. Honest Sustainability.
Every BV Cocoa Products shipment is accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis, MSDS, and origin certificate. Quality parameters are tested at every stage of the processing pipeline. Quality Framework
Four Dimensions of Quality Assurance
Quality at BV Cocoa Products is not a single checkpoint at the end of production. It is built across four interconnected dimensions — each covering a distinct aspect of what it means to deliver a reliable, documented cocoa ingredient to an international buyer.
Dimension 01
Documentation Standards
Every shipment leaves with a complete, lot-specific documentation set — not generic product sheets. Documentation is produced per production lot to reflect actual tested values.
- Certificate of Analysis (COA) — lot-specific
- Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
- Certificate of Origin — Cameroon
- Phytosanitary certificate on request
- Halal / microbiological reports on request
Dimension 02
Laboratory Testing
Physical, chemical, and microbiological parameters are tested per production lot. Results are confirmed before shipment and documented in the Certificate of Analysis.
- Fat content (cocoa butter %)
- Moisture content
- pH (cocoa powder and butter)
- Particle size / fineness
- Shell content (nibs, mass, powder)
- Total plate count, yeast, mould
Dimension 03
Processing Controls
Quality parameters are controlled at each stage of the processing pipeline — not only at the finished product stage. Early-stage quality control prevents defective raw material from entering further processing.
- Fermentation quality assessment on intake
- Moisture testing post-drying
- Roast profile monitoring
- Shell content check post-winnowing
- FFA and melting point for cocoa butter
Dimension 04
Traceability
BV Cocoa Products processes at origin in Cameroon, maintaining a direct, documented chain from cocoa bean through to finished exported product with no untracked intermediary steps.
- Origin-to-product traceability
- Lot numbering throughout production
- Production date and lot on all labels
- EUDR traceability docs available
- Certificate of Origin per shipment

Frequently Asked Questions
Quality FAQ
Sustainability
Origin Processing. Supply Chain Transparency. Honest Commitments.
BV Cocoa Products’ sustainability position starts with a fundamental fact: we process cocoa at its origin in Cameroon. This single structural decision — processing close to where cocoa is grown rather than shipping raw beans to a third country — is our most significant sustainability contribution, reducing supply chain length and enabling genuine traceability from farm region to finished product.
We state our sustainability position factually. We do not use greenwashing language or claim certifications we do not hold. Where certifications can be arranged, we say so. Where they cannot, we say that too.

Our Sustainability Position
Where We Stand — and What We Are Working Toward
What We Do Now
Process at Origin in Cameroon
All nine cocoa derivatives are processed at origin in Cameroon — not in a European or Asian processing country. This reduces supply chain length, preserves quality, and enables direct origin traceability from bean to finished product.
Maintain Origin-to-Product Traceability
BV Cocoa Products maintains documented traceability throughout our processing pipeline — from the Cameroonian growing region through fermentation, processing, and export. This traceability is available to buyers in document form and supports EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) due diligence requirements.
Maximise Use of the Cocoa Bean
BV Cocoa Products produces nine derivatives from every part of the cocoa bean — including cocoa husk (shell) that other processors discard. Cocoa husk is supplied for animal feed, fertiliser, and functional food uses rather than being treated as waste. This approach reduces processing by-product disposal.
Support Buyer Sustainability Compliance
We provide origin documentation, traceability records, and COA data to support buyers’ own sustainability reporting, due diligence programmes, and regulatory compliance — including EUDR, UK Forest Risk Commodities legislation, and corporate sustainability reporting requirements.
Cameroon Cocoa — The Origin Context
Smallholder Farming Base
The majority of Cameroonian cocoa is grown by smallholder farmers — typically family-owned plots of 1–5 hectares. Supporting Cameroonian cocoa export creates direct income pathways for smallholder farming communities in cocoa-growing regions.
Cocoa as an Agroforestry Crop
Cameroonian cocoa is traditionally grown under shade trees in agroforestry systems — cocoa trees grown alongside food crops and forest trees. This traditional cultivation approach preserves biodiversity and forest canopy compared to monoculture cocoa production systems used in some other origins.
Value Retained at Origin
By processing cocoa in Cameroon rather than exporting raw beans, BV Cocoa Products contributes to value-addition at origin — generating employment and economic activity in Cameroon’s processing sector rather than in importing countries.
Certification Path
BV Cocoa Products is engaged in exploring third-party certification pathways appropriate to our scale and supply chain — including Rainforest Alliance and organic certification. Buyers with specific certification requirements are encouraged to raise them at the inquiry stage. We will be transparent about what is and is not yet achievable.
EU Deforestation Regulation
EUDR Compliance — How BV Cocoa Products Supports EU Buyers
The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) requires companies placing cocoa and other commodities on the EU market to conduct due diligence demonstrating that the product was not produced on land deforested or degraded after December 31, 2020. This obligation falls primarily on the EU importer of record — not the exporting supplier. However, exporters play a critical role in providing the traceability and documentation that makes due diligence possible.
- BV Cocoa Products processes cocoa at origin in Cameroon — we know the source of our cocoa supply chain
- Certificate of Origin confirms Cameroonian origin for all products
- Traceability documentation linking cocoa to Cameroonian growing regions can be provided on request
- We can support buyers’ EUDR due diligence by providing supply chain information for their risk assessment
- Cameroon is a recognised origin in the EUDR framework — not a high-risk designation
EUDR Documentation Available
Buyers importing BV Cocoa Products cocoa derivatives into the EU can request the following documentation to support their EUDR due diligence process:
- Certificate of Origin (Cameroon)
- Certificate of Analysis with lot traceability
- Supply chain origin information for risk assessment
- Statement of processing location (Cameroon)
- Additional traceability documents on request
Our Commitments
Six Sustainability Commitments — Stated Honestly
These are specific, verifiable commitments — not aspirational marketing statements. Where we have limitations, we state them.
Process at Origin
We process all nine cocoa derivatives in Cameroon — the country where the cocoa is grown. No untracked third-country processing intermediary exists between the Cameroonian farm and the exported product.
This is a current, verified structural fact — not a target.
Traceability Documentation
We provide origin documentation and can supply traceability records linking our products to Cameroonian growing regions for buyers who require this for EUDR, corporate sustainability reporting, or other due diligence purposes.
Available now on request — not dependent on future systems.
Zero-Waste Processing Philosophy
Every part of the cocoa bean is processed into a commercially useful product. Cocoa husk — which many processors treat as waste — is supplied as cocoa husk for feed, fertiliser, and tea applications.
Verified through our product range — nine products from one bean.
Value Added in Cameroon
Processing cocoa in Cameroon rather than exporting raw beans creates skilled employment in Cameroon’s food processing sector and retains economic value in the origin country — a meaningful development contribution.
A structural fact — not a claim requiring third-party verification.
Transparent Documentation
We provide accurate, lot-specific COA documentation reflecting actual tested values — not aspirational specifications. If a lot does not meet specification, we do not ship it. Quality data is stated accurately.
Verified through our standard COA process — every lot.
Honest About Limitations
We do not hold third-party sustainability certifications across our full product range at this time. We are exploring certification pathways. Buyers with specific certification requirements should raise them in their inquiry — we will be transparent about what we can and cannot confirm.
Honest acknowledgement — not a shortcoming we conceal.
