Cocoa price in Douala today per kg

The cocoa price in Douala today per kg depends on which price you mean. A farmer, a port buyer and an overseas chocolate maker all quote a different number for the same bean, and each is correct. Here is the October 2026 ladder.

Price levelFCFA per kg≈ Euro per kgDate
Farmgate (producer price)2,600–2,700€3.96–€4.1221 Sep 2026
Douala buying price (exporters)2,700–2,800€4.12–€4.2712 Oct 2026
FOB Douala3,246€4.9512 Oct 2026
CIF destination3,326€5.0712 Oct 2026

Picture a cooperative truck rolling into Douala after a wet week on the roads. The beans are dry and well fermented, but the driver lost two days to mud. The buyer at the warehouse pays inside that 2,700–2,800 band. From there the exporter pays for sorting, bagging, fumigation, inspection, port handling and documents. Those costs, and the exporter’s margin, are the gap between the Douala buying price and the 3,246 FCFA FOB price.

If you are an overseas buyer, the FOB number is the one to watch. It is the price of beans loaded on the vessel in Douala, before freight and insurance. Add shipping and you reach CIF, the price landed at your port.

Cocoa price per kilo today: farmgate vs FOB vs futures

A cocoa price per kilo today can be read from three places. Each tells you something different.

World futuresNew York cocoa traded at $5,805 per tonne on 13 October 2026, or about $5.81 per kg. London traded at £4,343 per tonne, about £4.34 per kg.
FOB Douala3,246 FCFA per kg, about €4.95 per kg. This is the physical export price for Cameroon beans.
Farmgate2,600–2,700 FCFA per kg in late September 2026, the money farmers receive in the basins.

Futures are the benchmark for the whole world, but they are not the price of Cameroon beans. The physical price adds or subtracts a differential for origin, quality, season and logistics. Our international cocoa market prices page explains how a futures quote becomes a contract price.

Cocoa price today in Cameroon per kg: how it is set

The cocoa price today in Cameroon per kg is set by negotiation, not by the government. Cameroon liberalized its cocoa market in the late 1990s, so farmers and buyers agree prices freely. ONCC publishes daily reference prices and its price-alert system, the SIF, reports the farmgate range across the producing regions.

That makes Cameroon very different from its neighbours. In September 2026, Côte d’Ivoire fixed its 2026/27 farmgate price at 1,200 CFA/kg, while Cameroon’s minimum was 2,600 CFA/kg, more than double. When world prices rise, Cameroon farmers feel it within days. When they fall, the drop arrives just as fast.

What moves the price in Cameroon

  • World futures. London and New York set the direction for every origin.
  • Bean quality. Well-fermented, properly dried Grade 1 beans earn a premium. Wet or mouldy lots are discounted.
  • Season timing. The Cameroon season opens in August. Supply peaks in the main crop and tightens at season end.
  • Roads and rain. In September 2026 buyers widened discounts during heavy rain, when trucks struggled to reach the basins.
  • The euro. The FCFA is pegged at 655.957 per euro, so the dollar and the pound move the local price, not the euro.

1 kg cocoa price in Kumba today, and in 2021

The 1 kg cocoa price in Kumba today is in line with the national band of roughly 2,600–2,800 FCFA, as Kumba buyers price against the same ONCC and SIF references. Kumba is the commercial hub of Meme division in the South-West Region, one of Cameroon’s historic cocoa basins. No official price series is published for Kumba alone.

In 2021 the picture was very different. SIF data put farmgate prices at 925–1,000 FCFA/kg in early February 2021, rising to 1,000–1,050 FCFA/kg by 24 February. The minimum reached 1,100 FCFA/kg in September 2021, then eased back to 1,000 FCFA/kg by the end of the year. So 1 kg of cocoa in Kumba in 2021 sold for roughly 925–1,100 FCFA.
